Most Indian flats don’t get the bright, all-day sun that plant labels assume. A north-facing window, a shared boundary wall, or a single sunny corner is the reality — and that’s completely workable.
Start by reading your light honestly. If you can comfortably read a book at midday without switching on a lamp, that’s “medium” light. If it stays dim, treat it as low light and pick plants built for it: Snake Plant, ZZ Plant and Pothos all thrive where others sulk.
Push light-hungry plants like Monstera as close to your brightest window as possible, and rotate them a quarter-turn each week so they grow evenly instead of leaning.
When in doubt, use the “Right for your flat?” check on any plant page — tell it your room’s light and it’ll tell you honestly whether the plant will thrive.
